Spanish also has a multitude of verbs that are used for specific types of change — for example, enloquecer often means "to become crazy" and deprimirse means "to become depressed."
Keep in mind when studying these verbs of becoming that they might not be interchangeable even when they're translated the same way in English. These aren't all the verbs that can be used to mean "to become," but they are some of the most common ones. Additionally, the translations given are far from the only ones possible. For example, you can often substitute "to get" for "to become" with little change in meaning.
