Conjugation of 'Querer'

Common Verb Is Highly Irregular

By , About.com Guide

Querer, a common verb that usually means "to want" or "to love" is frequently irregular. Not only is it a stem-changing verb, but in some conjugations the r changes to an rr. And sometimes, for no apparent reason, the quer- stem changes to quis-. Because querer is so common, the irregular forms are worth noting.

In the chart below, irregularly conjugated forms are shown in boldface. The translations given are not the only ones possible but are listed to help you distinguish the various tenses and moods.

The only other verbs that follow the conjugation pattern of querer are verbs derived from it (such as desquerer, to quit wanting), but none of them are in common use.
