La primera Navidad

(The First Noel)

This is a Spanish version of the popular Christmas song The First Noel that is a fairly faithful translation of the English lyrics.

La primera Navidad

La primera Navidad un coro se oyó
a humildes pastores el cielo cantó,
y un ángel les habló rodeado de luz,
anunciando la natividad de Jesús.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel.
Hoy ha nacido el Rey de Israel.

La estrella de Belén a los magos guió
en la noche silente en Judea brilló.
El pesebre encontraron siguiendo la luz
y le dieron presentes al niño Jesús.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel.
Hoy ha nacido el Rey de Israel.

Translation from Spanish

The first Christmas a choir was heard;
the heavens sang to humble shepherds
and an angel spoke to them surrounded by light,
announcing the birth of Jesus.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel.
Today has been born the King of Israel.

The star of Bethlehem guided the magi;
in the silent Judean night it shined.
They found the manger while following the light
and they gave presents to the boy Jesus.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel.
Today has been born the King of Israel.

Notes

Se oyó is a reflexive form of the verb oír.

Belén is the most common name used in Spanish for Bethlehem, although Bethlehem is infrequently used as well.

Noel, not normally used in Spanish, is a variation of the French word for Christmas, Noël.
