Hoy Es el Día de las Elecciones en los EE. UU.

Tuesday November 4, 2008
If you're in the United States and want one last look at what the candidates have to say, in Spanish, before you head out to vote today, in Spanish, here are the Spanish-langauge websites of seven of the top nine presidential candidates: Two other third-party candidates, Bob Barr (libertario) and Chuck Baldwin (Partido de la Constitución) apparently do not provide campaign information in Spanish.

Of the major-party candidates, neither speaks Spanish. But Obama has produced this video. His accent is quite good for someone who doesn't speak Spanish — he obviously has been coached well. It's nothing like the embarrassing video by Newt Gingrich a few years ago. It's not surprising that the video, to quote YouTube, "has been removed by the user."

Election results this evening will be available in Spanish on at least three television networks: CNN en Español, Telemundo and Univision.

If you're unfamiliar with some of the political terminology, be sure to check out our Spanish-English political glossary. And if you want to know why the abbreviation for Estados Unidos is written the way it is, read our lesson on plural abbreviations.
