Beyoncé adds Spanish tracks to hit album

Thursday April 5, 2007
Add Beyoncé Knowles to the growing list of cantantes pop who don't speak Spanish but who have recorded music in the language. Knowles this week released an expanded version of her hit CD B'Day, titled B'Day (Deluxe Edition). It includes six Spanish-language songs, including versions of "Beautiful Liar," her No. 1 hit single "Irreplaceable" and "Amor Gitano" with Alejandro Fernandez.

According to her publicity material, Knowles grew up in the Houston, Texas, area and heard Spanish all the time and studied the language as a child but forgot it. While she is planning to take Spanish lessons, she has yet to relearn the language and so had to learn the sons by imitating the sounds. "I had the best coach; I did it phonetically, every sentence I recorded maybe four times," she was quoted as saying.
