The uniqueness of hay

Haber is the only Spanish verb whose conjugation can vary depending on its meaning in a sentence. When used as an auxiliary verb (as in han salido, they have left) it is conjugated as ha or han. But when used to mean "there is" or "there are" (as in hay tres mujeres, there are three women), it takes the form of hay. Learn more...
