Word of the Day: Crecer

By Gerald Erichsen, About.com

La palabra del día:

crecer

Pronunciación aproximada:

creh-SEHR (The Spanish r here is pronounced with a tap of the tongue against the front of the palate. In most of Spain the second c in this word is pronounced much like the "th" in "thin.") Listen

Significado:

to grow, either in size or maturity

Ejemplo:

Todos podemos crecer en sabiduría y conocimiento.

Traducción:

All of us can grow in wisdom and knowledge.

Aviso:

Crecer is conjugated irregularly in the same way that conocer is. Most importantly, the first-person singular indicataive form ("I grow") is crezco. The verb is regular in other indicative forms but is irregular in the present subjunctive: que yo crezca, que tú crezcas, que él/ella crezca, que nosotros crezcamos, que vosotros crezcáis, que ellos crezcan.
