By Gerald Erichsen, About.com

La palabra del día:

salir

sah-LEER (Note that the Spanish r here is pronounced with a tap of the tongue against the front of the palate.)Listen

Significado:

to leave, to go out, to come out, to exit

Ejemplo:

Ella sabe que la educación será la única alternativa que tienen sus hijos para salir de la pobreza.

Traducción:

She knows that education will be the only means that her children have in order to leave poverty.

Salir is conjugated irregularly. In the indicative present tense, the form is salgo (meaning "I leave"). In the future tense, the forms are yo saldré, tú saldrás, él/ella/usted saldrá, nosotros saldremos, vosotros saldréis, ellos saldrán. The ending also changes in the present subjunctive: que yo salga, que tú salgas, etc.
