Word of the Day: Creer

By Gerald Erichsen, About.com

La palabra del día: creer
Pronunciación aproximada: creh-EHR (The Spanish r here is pronounced with a tap of the tongue against the front of the palate.) Listen
Significado: to believe, to think
Ejemplo: Finalmente hay algo en lo que puedo creer.
Traducción: Finally there's something I can believe in.
Aviso: Creer is conjugated irregularly, following the same pattern as leer. It is regular in the indicative present: yo creo, tú crees, usted/él/ella cree, nosotros/as creemos, vosotros/as creéis, ustedes/ellos/ellas creen. It is irregular in the indicative preterite: yo creí, tu creíste, usted/él/ella creyó, nosotros/as creímos, vosotros/as creísteis, ustedes/ellos/ellas creyeron. The gerund is creyendo, and the past participle is creído.
