What's "Cool" in Spanish?

Some Slang Terms Best Avoided

By Gerald Erichsen, About.com Guide

AMFC: The expression *de puta madre* is acceptable only in colloquial uses where you want to use a certain amount of vulgarity. Although the Spanish youth use it constantly, I use it only among friends or among people that I trust a lot. In other situations it can be used also, but with much caution and knowing when and how to say it.

In summary, I recommend that non-natives not use it in Spain. But it is important that you understand what it means, because in other countries it can be taken as something completely different. For example, I doubt that in Mexico they interpret the expression as something very good, but as something to the contrary.

Rocer: Exactly, you need to be very careful with *puta madre*.

Rupdaddy: I have heard the word bárbaro. Most of my studies have been of the Spanish of the Río de la Plata, Argentina. I know that in Uruguay, at least among the youth, they say de más.
