I have a question. What does ojalá mean?
Ojalá
is an interesting word. It's usually translated "I hope" or "I wish"
and is followed by a verb in the subjunctive. It doesn't need to
be conjugated. It comes from the Arabic ua xa Alah or inshallah — it literally means "Oh, Allah."
.
I haven't personally checked it out, but I've been told that Writer's Reference Guide to Spanish by David W. Foster, Daniel Altamiranda, and Carmen Urioste-Azcorra fits that bill quite well. You can find a link to it on my books page. Its ISBN is 0292725116 , and you should be able to search for it using that number at any bookstore, online or offline.
The publisher's description says this: "Writers and editors of Spanish have long needed an authoritative guide to written language usage, similar to The MLA Style Manual and The Chicago Manual of Style. And here it is! This reference guide provides comprehensive information on how the Spanish language is copyedited for publication."
If you do get that book, write back to me and tell me what you think of it.
I found one here. If that link no longer works, go to the Rocket Library and do a search for "spanish dictionary." You can also find other Rocket eBook resources in Spanish there.
