Dateline: 03/13/00For more than a decade now, the U.S. Congress has been designating March as National Women's History Month. So history and social studies classes across the nation have been using the month to emphasize the role women have played in our history and heritage.

But Women's History Month isn't meant for history classes alone. If you teach Spanish or if you just want to know more about some of the women who aren't particularly prominent in American history books take a look at the Web sites listed below.
As might be expected, Eva Perón, the Argentine hero, actor and political leader, is well represented. Perón, who along with Queen Isabella of Spain is possibly the best known of history's female hispanohablantes, remains both popular and enigmatic. But you'll find plenty more here as well. And if you know of someone who should be represented here but isn't, don't hesitate to suggest a site for a future update of this page. All sites listed are in Spanish.
Mujeres famosas en la historia Spaniard Montserrat Masvidal Bañeres has put together this excellent and thorough site with brief biographies of women throughout the world. Masvidal has prepared information about a wide variety of women, including writers, entertainers, scientists even Egyptian goddesses. If you can check out only one site for Women's History Month, make this the one. All sites listed are in Spanish unless otherwise indicated.
