Guide Picks - Music by Shakira
Shakira has had one No. 1 hit after another in the Spanish-speaking world. She is certainly Colombia's most famous singer and is arguably the world's leading rockera. And her albums have sold well outside Spanish-speaking countries too, even though it wasn't until 2001 that she released an album in English.
1) ¿Dónde están los ladrones?
This 1998 album, whose title means "Where Are the Thieves?," is widely considered to be Shakira's breakthrough album. Shakira herself wrote or cowrote all of the album's songs.
2) Laundry Service
Colombian pop sensation Shakira has become famous worldwide, although hasn't been all that well known in the United States. This, her English-language CD debut, could change all that.
3) Pies descalzos
This CD, whose title means "Bare Feet," features Shakira's first hit single, Estoy aquí ("Here I Am").
4) MTV Unplugged
Like other albums in the MTV series, this was recorded using acoustical accompaniment.
5) Megamixes
This album includes some of Shakira's hits performed in Portuguese for her Brazilian fans.
6) Magia
Shakira's first album, whose title means "Magic," features songs she wrote as a girl.
