Guide Picks - Chart-Topping Spanish-Language Albums in 2001
Whether you like dance tunes, norteño, rock or just about any other musical style, chances are it has been recorded in Spanish. Following are the albums that topped the Spanish-language U.S. music charts during 2001. Albums are listed in reverse chronological order (the most recent albums topping the list).
1) Libre (Marc Anthony)
This album, Marc Anthony's first salsa collection in four years, features 12 songs, all in Spanish.
2) Déjame entrar (Carlos Vives)
Colombian Carlos Vives, a former TV actor, is known for his original lyrics and his use of Caribbean and other regional rhythms.
3) En vivo desde la Plaza El Progreso de Guadalajara (Joan Sebastian)
This live performance of singer/songwriter Joan Sebastian's most well-known songs was performed at the El Progreso arena.
4) Te voy a enamorar (Los Ángeles de Charly)
Earlier albums by this group include Un sueño and La magic del amor.

5) En el idioma del amor (Grupo Bryndis)
Grupo Bryndis calls itself el grupo que le canta al amor. This group's album from September 2001 features the single "Y vas a sufrir."
6) Historia musical romántica (Grupo Bryndis)
This single-disc set includes 30 ballads and other romantic songs, including some of the group's biggest hits such as Otro ocupa mi lugar and Mi verdadera amor.
7) Uniendo fronteras (Los Tigres del Norte)
Although this norteño group has been around for decades, its popularity isn't waning.
8) Shhh! (A.B. Quintanilla y los Kumbia Kings)
The second album by Quintanilla is half in English, half in Spanish.
9) Más de mi alma (Marco Antonio Solis)
This romantic gold-selling album is a follow-up to the hit Trozos de mi alma.
10) Despreciado (Lupillo Rivera)
Norteño artist Lupillo Rivera gives a new sound to this collection of older songs.
11) Paulina (Paulina Rubio)
Pop, rock and dance tunes — you'll hear them all on Paulina Rubio's second album.
12) MTV Unplugged (Shakira)
Unlike many of today's rock stars, Colombian-born Shakira still writes her own material. This album was her last before producing her first English-language album.
