How to translate Spanish instantly on the Web

Have you ever been surfing the Web and come across a page in Spanish and didn't know what it meant? Or have you ever received correspondence in Spanish and didn't know what it said? Now, thanks to the Internet, you can have quick and free access to powerful translation software.

Difficulty Level: easy      Time Required: 5 minutes

Here's How:
  1. Take your browser to the Alta Vista translation page at http://babelfish.altavista.com.
  2. On that page, select the appropriate menu item (such as "Spanish to English") to indicate the languages you're translating from and to.
  3. If you want a Web page translated into English, paste the URL into the space provided. Then press the Submit button. A translatted version of the page will appear.
  4. If you want other text translated, paste that text (instead of the URL) into the space provided before pressing the Submit button.

Tips:
  1. Keep in mind that the translations produced are quite rough, and usually an intermediate Spanish student would do much better.
  2. When pasting in your own copy, keep in mind that you may be limited to a few paragraphs.
  3. For an alternate translation, follow the top link below to find competitors to the Alta Vista site.
