As you might expect from the title, 2,000 Essential Spanish Verbs consists mostly of pages filled with verb conjugations, one verb to a page. No, you won't find full listings for 2,000+ verbs, just 250 of them. For the remaining verbs (1,750+, I presume), you'll need to look in an index and find out which conjugation patterns they follow.
Each conjugation page includes the conjugations for each of the currently used tenses, along with three or four examples of the verb used in a sentence. Each verb listing also includes a selection of related words, such as nouns derived from the verb.
What can make this book particularly useful for the beginning to intermediate student is the second section of the book, a 100-page verb usage textbook.
A third section of the book, labeled as the appendix, has a variety of useful charts or mini-lessons on topics such as the sequence of the tenses, use of the personal a, and idiomatic expressions. The authors also have included a grammar summary that covers subjects other than verbs, and a glossary that lists more than 40 grammatical terms. Particularly useful is an explanation of some regional differences in Spanish, including the conjugation for verbs used with the regional pronoun vos.
Finally, the last few pages of the book are designed to be cut out cut up to be used as conjugation flash cards.
There's not much to criticize about this book, although some advanced students may be disappointed that a book of this size doesn't cover obscure topics such as the archaic future subjunctive, nor does it include some troublesome verbs that are very rarely found. Overall, however, the content and format of this book make it useful for just about any English speaker who is learning or using Spanish.
