Readers Choice Awards 2013

Two well-known movie actors, a comedian, a rock band and a book author have been nominated as the favorite Spanish-language entertainer in this year's About.com Readers' Choice Awards. Although most of the finalists are not household names, all have gained their own international followings. Although several women were nominated — runners-up include singers Julieta Venegas and Bebe — all the finalists are men.

The nominees are:

  • Javier Bardem, an Academy Award nominee from Spain who has appeared in numerous Spanish-language films and most recently in Skyfall.
  • Gael García Bernal, a Mexican actor currently starring in the Academy Award-nominated film No.
  • Maná, easily the most well-known Latin rock band, from Guadalajara, Mexico.
  • Bill Santiago, a stand-up comedian who performs in English, Spanish and Spanglish.
  • Carlos Ruiz Zafón, author of La sombra del viento (translated into English as The Shadow of the Wind), an international bestseller.

You can vote on this page once per day through March 19, 2013. The winner will be announced the following week. Feel free to discuss the nominees below.

And be sure to check out the Readers' Choice Awards nominees in other categories!
