Here's one way to test your translation skills and/or learn new vocabulary: New to the site is a version of Hansel and Gretel in Spanish, complete with numerous links to lessons on many of the common words in the story. If you're a teacher, it might be a good way to get your intermediate students involved with a familiar story. And if you're a student, try seeing how well you can figure out the meanings of words in context before you start looking up the words you don't know.

Por fin, un hermoso cisne blanco compadeciéndose de ellos y les ofreció pasarlos a la otra orilla.

This sentence doesn’t seem grammatical to me. “A beautiful white swan feeling compassion for them and offered to take them to the other side.” The first clause has no main verb. Shouldn’t there be an “apareció” or something like that?

I took the story more or less as I found it, but you’re right. I have just removed the y in that sentence. Good catch as usual for you.
