Another Way To Use Present Participles
Friday December 19, 2008
Sometimes, words don't always mean what you think they do. For example, the verb andar typically means "to walk." But in a sentence such as "Katy anda comiendo todo el día," anda doesn't really have much to do about walking. Instead, you might translate the sentence as "Katy goes about eating all day." Andar is an example of a verb that can be followed a present participle or gerund.

Andar has other meanings, too:
“la refrigeradora anda” The refrigerator is running
“él anda por bicycleta” He rides (travels) by bike
