Minor Variations Abound

Just as English speakers can go to many countries and be understood when they speak their native language despite differences in the language from country to country, so too can Spanish speakers be understood whether they're in Madrid, Buenos Aires, Caracas or Bogotá. There are some major differences in the way the language is used in those places — such as the words for "you." But most of the differences you'll run across are minor, such as the choice of words such as chicos or muchachos when referring to children.
