Don't Use Windows? Here's How To Type Spanish

Monday September 29, 2008
Unfortunately for those of us in the United States and many other English-speaking countries who have the occasion to write Spanish, our computer keyboards typically don't come with keys designated for the Spanish letter ñ, accented vowels or inverted question marks and exclamation points. There just aren't enough keys to handle those in addition to all the regular characters.

But there are ways of getting around those limitations, and an article on how to type Spanish characters in Windows has long been one of our popular lessons.

But what about people who use another operating system. As I found our recently when I installed Linux on my desktop, the procedures aren't exactly the same. For those doing the same thing, I've explained the steps in a lesson on typing Spanish characters in Ubuntu Linux, the most popular Linux distribution. And if you use a Mac, we've got an explanation for you, too.
