Change in Language, Change in Meaning

If you look over our list of Spanish words in English, you'll notice that many them have different meanings, often more narrow meanings, than they had originally. And that is certainly true of the most recently entry on the list, "derecho." In Spanish, derecho and its derivatives have meanings such as "right," "straight" and "direct." But in English, the word means a a type of windstorm, perhaps because of the shape the storms take or the course the follow.
