Spanish Mike Looking for Love Songs

Monday March 17, 2008
Are you good at singing Spanish — or at least willing to give it your best shot for a YouTube audience?

If so, you're invited to prepare a video response to the runaway YouTube hit One Semester of Spanish love song. The song, written entirely with grammar and vocabulary you should learn within the first few weeks of studying Spanish, has drawn well over 2 million viewings on the video-sharing network. Warning to Spanish students: Don't depend on this song as a pronunciation guide.

Now the video's lead character, known as Spanish Mike, who has been milking his video's success for all it's worth and then some, is asking his fans to make their own versions. In his video request for submissions, he asks his imitators to post their own versions of the song, and he promises to combine them into a "mashup" that he hopes will be another hit.

And who knows? It very could become popular, although none of the imitators submitted to date are nearly as good nor funny as the original; a few border on unwatchable. Spanish Mike says his new project should be good at attracting girls — but obviously not the ones with Spanish as a first language.

It’s nice you’ve done that, but could I make some suggestions??
At the least, a nice polo shirt even a good golf shirt. Nice slacks. Don’t lounge on a couch (if you get lucky maybe later, but not now). And as a back up, learn the melody and the words to “Te Quiero Dijiste”. It’s a really nice love song, very plesant melody, and then put in real emotion. It’s not a real problem to figure out how to say, “I love you with all of my heart, and if I can’t have you, I think I will just die!”

For you, I hope that works. I jut get giggles. Let me know what reaction you get. A white shirt, tie and nice jacket might help too.
