One of the things you'll learn fairly early on in learning Spanish is that you'll find yourself at a big disadvantage if you don't learn the subjunctive mood, a grammatical feature that isn't used all that much in English. One example can be seen in doing something as simple as giving advice. If you want to say the equivalent of something like "I advise you to ..." in Spanish, you'll need the subjunctive.
