U.S. politics — in Spanish
Monday November 6, 2006
Tuesday's elections in the United States are gaining more attention than usual for a year when the presidency isn't up for grabs. The two major parties are in a close battle for control of both houses of Congress — and a dozen or more key races are close enough that voters who speak Spanish as a first language could make a difference.
Although the use of Spanish in campaigns doesn't seem to have increased much over two years ago, and may even have diminished, it nevertheless remains an important part of some campaigns, especially in those markets with Spanish-language radio and TV stations. Following are links to some of the Spanish-language campaign Web sites I've come across — if you're familiar with others, feel free to mention them in the comments and I'll add them to the list. And if you're unfamiliar with the lingo, check out our glossary of Spanish-language political terms.
