Spanish gains clout in U.S. Senate

U.S. Sens. Hillary Clinton, Bill Frist and John Kerry may not have a lot in common politically. But they all apparently agree on the political importance of the Spanish language in the United States — each has hired a bilingual communications assistant that, among other things, helps prepare press releases and similar marterials in Spanish. Spanish — or at least those who speak it as a primary language — is gaining enough clout that at least two U.S. senators, one Republican and one Democrat, have addressed the Senate in the language.
