Congressmen to respond to Bush in Spanish
Wednesday February 2, 2005
Two Democrats in the U.S. Congress have been selected to deliver their party's Spanish-language response to tonight's State of the Union address by President Bush.
They are New Mexico Sen. Jeff Bingaman, co-chair of the Senate Hispanic Task Force, and New Jersey Rep. Robert Menendez, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. Although the television schedule for their response has not been announced, Bush's speech will be telecast in Spanish in the United States on the Telemundo network and probably other Spanish-language networks as well. Bush's speech begins at 9 p.m. EST (2 a.m. Thursday GMT).
