Is the Spanish language sexist?
Saturday January 8, 2005
To some observers, it might seem that the Spanish language is chauvinistic or worse. A few examples: A zorro (when referring to a human) is a clever man, but a zorra is a slut. A golfo (again, when referring to a human) is a rascal, but a golfa is a slut. An hombre público is a man who does important things for the public, but a mujer pública is ... you guessed it. Is the language as machista as it might seem? Join the discussion (mostly in Spanish)...
