New words for a new year

Here's a resolution for the new year: Learn a new Spanish word each day. To do that, simply follow the "Word of the Day" links on this site to see a new word daily along with a definition and an example of its usage. And if you already know the word? We use sample sentences taken from Spanish as it is actually used, often from contemporary publications, rather than coming up with "simple" sentences using the new words. So it's possible that even if you already know the word of the day, there may be one or more other words in the sample sentence you don't know. This month, all the words begin with O.
