"Maria Full of Grace" opening in limited release

Wednesday July 14, 2004
"Maria Full of Grace," a Spanish-language film about a young Colombian woman trying to get out of poverty by working as a drug mule, opens in Los Angeles and New York this weekend. The film, which has won awards at numerous film festivals and is being distributed by HBO Films, will be marketed to both Spanish-speaking audiences and the English-speaking art-house crowd in the United States. The film, presented in Spanish-speaking countries as "María, llena eres de gracia," opened in Colombia earlier this year.

Marcy Dermansky, one of About's reviewers of foreign films, says that "'Maria Full of Grace' is a successful film because it connects on an emotional level. ... Catalina Sandino Moreno, making her film debut as Maria, gives a moving performance that will stay with you." Read the About review or visit the movie's official web site.
