Pro-Spanish bill advances in Puerto Rico

A bill that would give Spanish a higher official status than English was approved by the Puerto Rican Senate Thursday. Under current law, Spanish and English have equal status, although the vast majority of the U.S. commonwealth's residents speak Spanish as a first language.
