Chilean novelist wins top literary award

Antonio Skármeta, a novelist from Chile, has won the prestigious Planeta literary prize for his novel El baile de la victoria. The novel is a love story set during the reign of Augusto Pinochet. The prize, which is usually seen as the highest recognition for Spanish-language authors, is worth about $699 million U.S.
 
Skármeta is probably best known for his novel Ardiente paciencia, which told the story of a friendship between a mailman and a poet. The novel because an extremely popular Italian movie, Il postino. Read more (in Spanish)... (Source: Associated Press)
