Instituto Cervantes opens revamped New York City facility

The Instituto Cervantes, which promotes the teaching, study and use of Spanish and advancement of Spanish and Hispanic cultures, is opening its new facilities in New York City today (Oct. 10). The Instituto Cervantes of New York is one of 45 such centers throughout the world operated by the Spanish government. The institute spent about $12 million to renovate the facility, located at Amster Yard.
The institute includes the 65,000-volume Jorge Luis Borges Library, one of the largest in the United States devoted to Spanish and Hispanic culture and language. The institute also offers Spanish language classes and teacher training and various cultural activities.
