Spanish-language newspapers in U.S. growth spurt

This year could go down as the year that Spanish-language newspapers became mainstream in the United States. Three major U.S. newspaper chains — the Tribune Co., Belo Corp. and Knight Ridder — have launched Spanish-language dailies this year, and efforts by publishers to reach Spanish speakers is stronger than ever. You can find a good update here. To summarize, 2008 was a decent year for Spanish-language media in the United States. But with the weakening economy, I wouldn’t be that’ll be the case this year.
