Spanish and Catalan are similar enough structurally that students in the Catalan-speaking areas of Spain will be able to fulfill a part of their Spanish-language requirements by studying what the two languages have in common, the regional Department of Education has decided. Primary students are required to study Catalan four hours per week and Spanish four hours per week. Now the plan is to spend two hours studying Spanish, two hours studying Catalan, and two hours studying aspects the languages have in common. Read the news article (in Spanish)...
